51.015° 13.705° - The question of where

This question has shaped my academic and professional path from the very beginning. As easy at it may sound, but with these two numbers, you can pinpoint a location on the globe in WGS84. But how do you get these numbers? And how to get them with more precision and high accuracy and indoors?

I started with surveying technician, driven by a fundamental interest in positioning, maps and spatial understanding. I then pursued studies in vehicle technology engineering, followed by postgraduate specialization in digital signal processing. During the Self Driving Car Nanodegree, it became clear to me that accurate position estimation is at the core of every autonomous system.

After several Kalman Filter tutorials, research papers and patents, localization became not just an interest but my profession.

  • At SICK, I am the Product Manager for an indoor localization solution, bringing indoor location technologies into industrial applications.
  • At Profibus Nutzerorganisation I am the Marketing Working Group lead for the omlox standard, which aims to create a unified ecosystem for localization technologies.

Since 2021, I have also served as Eastern Regional Director of the German Association for Artificial Intelligence.

Localization is more than a technical problem to me. It is the foundation for intelligent, autonomous and connected systems.
